Korimako - Tu Meke Tui, FLOX Inspired Art
Over the last few weeks Korimako students have been experimenting with painting, stencil making and layering to create art inspired by famous NZ artist FLOX.
During this art unit tamariki had to look at the difference between warm and cool colours. Once selecting their base colour they had to mix the primary colours to create this. They then had to select a NZ native bird to study and create a stencil of. This stencil could be repeated throughout the piece.
The third layer was a koru that students connected with. They had to think; What is special about this koru? What features does this koru have in its silhouette?
Finally students collected flora and fauna either from home or the school grounds. By using these as stamp students were able to add different texture, size and colour to their piece.
The finished artworks have certainly added some pops of colour to our learning space.
