From the Acting Principal
It's surprising just how busy the last couple of weeks have been at Marshland School.
Kia Ora Whānau,
What a busy calendar it has been. We've had a school production, professional development for staff, ICAS exams, weekly winter sports, visitors to the school, not to mention a teacher strike thrown in for good measure.
In the coming weeks, we have teams competing in the Canterbury Winter Tournament, our Intermediate's Open Evening and also increased preparation for our Kapa Haka group performing at this year's Cultural Festival.
The Lion King Jr
The Lion King Jr school production, performed last week over three consecutive nights, was a true testament to all of the hard work by students, teachers and whānau. A special acknowledgement to Bex Osborn for her drive in leading this incredible event. This has been a wonderful opportunity for our children to experience the performing arts and something they will carry with them for years to come. For those of you who were lucky enough to attend one of the shows, many would agree, that we certainly have some very talented students at Marshland. Thank you so much for supporting this amazing event. It really brought our community together. I can't wait for the next one!
Te Ara Tūhura Manaiakalani Outreach Toolkits
On Tuesday after school, our staff were involved in the Te Ara Tūhura Manaiakalani Outreach Toolkits. These are an important component of the Professional Learning Development programme for Manaiakalani teachers in our cluster. These development sessions cover a wide range of topics both technical/digital and pedagogical and are run by teachers for teachers - with a little bit of help from facilitators and others. Tool kit sessions are provided to give all members of staff an opportunity to up-skill, connect and network and share learning across the cluster.
Intermediate Open Evening
We extend a special invitation to prospective parents/caregivers and children, at our Intermediate Open Evening. This will be on Thursday 23rd August at 7pm-8pm. Please assemble in the hall for a brief presentation followed by a visit to the Toroa Hub. If you would like to attend this evening, could you please RSVP to the office before Tuesday 21st August.
Complaints Procedure
Many thanks to parents/caregivers/whānau for following the school complaints policy. We encourage you to voice your concerns to us and invite all feedback from our community, positive or negative. Each term, board members, staff, and/or parents are asked to review and comment on specific policies. This term we are reviewing our Complaints policy. Please visit our Policies and Procedures page here. This can be viewed on our website home page under the heading School Policies/Procedures.
Another New Baby
We would like to congratulate Victoria Miles (formerly Pukeko Hub) and her husband Michael, on the birth of their baby son Bryn.
Photo Gallery
Please view some of the photos below demonstrating true collaboration between the Teague/Osborn literacy group and tamariki from the Tui hub.
There are also some photos of children connecting with others, caring for our environment, celebrating learning success, sporting prowess (Korimako football boys, Toroa rugby practice, Libby M with her many gymnastic medals). It's a wonderful vibe in the school.
