Maia Smith —

Canterbury Athletics, Swimming Lessons and the Tough Kids event. We have certainly been busy right until the end of the year!

Canterbury Athletics

On Wednesday 30th November we had 27 year 5-8 students qualify for the Canterbury Primary School Athletics competition. There was some tough competition but our students did us proud, representing Marshland School with such MANA. Here are some of our standout results:

Emma Cox - 3rd 1000m Distance - year 5 girls.

Harper Bartram - 2nd Long Jump - year 5 girls.

Year 6 Girls Relay - 3rd Kyla, Anya, Annabel, Chloe, Freya.

Annabel Noonan - 4th Long Jump - year 6 girls.

Makenzie Disher - 5th Shot Put - year 8 girls.

Noah Stewart - 5th High Jump - year 5 boys.

Ruby Stace - 2nd Shot Put, 2nd Discus, 3rd Sprints (year 5/6 girls AWD)

Swimming Lessons

Students from Kiwi, Pukeko, Tui and Korimako are set for summer after completing two weeks of swimming lessons and water safety. It was great to see the tamariki get involved each day. A highlight for many was certainly getting to wear the life jackets and pyjama day.

MASH Tough Kids

For me personally one of my favourite days of the year has got to be the Tough Kids event - and I think a lot of the children would have to agree. All students in Tui and Korimako headed down to South Brighton Domain on Thursday where they completed a 2.5km loop clambering over tyres, through bouncy castles, over gates and rope spider webs all before entering the mud of the estuary. Once we got to the estuary you were pushed to find anyone without an ounce of mud on them! This was thanks to crawling under cargo nets and bridges whilst squelching your way around the course. We were all grateful by the end of the course to get hosed down by the firemen on the water slide!
