Board Talk - Term 3, 2023
Board Talk Mid-Year Issue 2023
Welcome to the mid-year edition of the Marshland School Board talk. This publication comes out once a term and will outline some of the things we are currently working on as a Board.
Parent Community Group
Led by Hollie Turner a committed group of parents and staff have banded together to raise valuable funds for the School. This year's money will be put towards re-purposing the current learning space in the office foyer and turning it into a multi-purpose library and chillout zone for our tamariki to enjoy year-round. To date, the team has raised a considerable amount of money and has led events such as the school disco, the community quiz evening, and the pizza lunch all being a great success. With plenty of further events already in the works for the remainder of the school year keep an eye on the School Newsletter to ensure you do not miss out.
Stage 3 Update
Planning for the stage three development continues to progress albeit slower than we would like. The property team expertly led by Rochelle Foster and supported by Leigh is continuing to work through the process with the MOE and barring some final clarification we are hopeful that work will commence on-site later this year with a completion date in 2024 a tentative target. The Stage 3 building will be situated on the far side of the field (near the Toroa Learning Hub) and face the main (office, Kiwi, Pukeko Learning Hub) building. We will keep you posted in regard to any developments. Good things take time.
School Production
If you have been in the school lately you may have noticed a hive of activity around the place with the Toroa staff and students busy preparing for the school production of Shrek The Musical. Busy rehearsing, preparing props, and finalising the finer details this is a huge undertaking for all involved and the will be a fantastic way to kick off term 3. Tickets are selling fast with shows scheduled for week 2 of term on Monday the 24th and Tuesday the 25th of July at 6 pm with a third show also on Tuesday the 25th at 1.30 pm. This promises to be an entertaining showcase of all of the wonderful learning that has gone on around this production and is one you will not want to miss.
2024 School dates
With 2023 racing by we are aware that many families are beginning to look ahead to plan their 2024 year with holidays and the like. Term 1 2024 will commence on Wednesday 31st January with the final day of the school year being Tuesday 17th of December. We are still awaiting confirmation of two teacher-only dates from the Ministry of Education which have been awarded to schools to support the New Zealand Curriculum refresh. As soon as we have confirmed these dates we will communicate these to the wider community.
Wishing you all a fantastic Term 3.
