Astronauts wear Nappies!

Sam Jones —

This week the Pukeko Hub has been exploring their “Spaced Out” box from the House of Science.

This box provided the hub with all of the resources needed to take part in some fantastic experiments designed to get children thinking about and investigating Space.

Some of the children’s favourites include;

‘Astronauts wear Nappies’ - children investigated the secret, water-absorbing chemical in disposable nappies. These have to be worn by astronauts during shuttle missions!

‘Making a Galaxy’ - children made their own galaxies and discussed how they are made up of stars and other space matter.

“Big BANG” - children looked at how the universe is expanding by modelling it with a balloon and looking at different galaxies.

3rd Rock from the Sun” - children got to make models of the solar system using playdough and look at the relative sizes and distances of planets.
