Everyday Science - Pukeko

Hanneke van den Ende —

This term, the Pukeko Hub has been making connections between science and our everyday lives.

The tamariki have observed and carried out several experiments using everyday kitchen and household items. We have been learning how to think like a scientist; by making predictions about what we think will happen, making careful observations and forming wonderings about what we observe in the experiments.

For each experiment, we have also spent some time understanding the 'science' behind it and learning how a change or a reaction occurs when certain materials are mixed. We also tested out our wonderings by changing variables and re-doing the experiment.

Our experiments have included the Coke and Mentos, Wicking Water and Raising Raisins experiments. This week we had lots of fun creating Erupting Volcanoes in the sandpit!
