Board Talk Summer Issue 2020

Board Talk Summer Issue 2020

Welcome to the Summer Edition of the Board Talk for the Marshland School Board of Trustees 2020. We hope to get a publication out once a term to keep you informed with some of the things we are involved with as a Board.

Successful Learning

We have made it through another term without Covid interruption, although there have been some scares along the way. As a Board we have viewed the learning results from the children over the year and we are very impressed with what we have seen. For an interrupted year the results are superb and credit must go to everyone involved. The parents have done a great job of supporting the learners and helping keep the learning going off site, often balancing their own commitments at the same time. The teachers have kept high quality learning happening almost seamlessly between home and school and we thank them for their efforts over the year. And most importantly to the children, you may never get another year like this, but you have kept up your learning through challenging times and achieved some really outstanding results.

Stage 3 update

We still are waiting for a start date for stage 3, however detailed designs have been drawn up and they are on display in the hall foyer. We hope to get a start date and tenders out in the new year.

Board Election Results

We did not need to go to election as we received the same amount of nominations as vacancies. We welcome Rochelle Foster back onto the Board for another term of 3 years and new member Justin Rowlands. We look forward to utilising the skills and experiences these members bring to the Board.

Property enhancements

Work on the property development projects funded by the School Investment Package are due to start over the Summer holidays. There will be aspects of the projects that will need to be completed during term 1 as there are some things that will take some time to complete.

The projects taking place are installing new asphalt areas, creating a scooter track, landscaping the area out the front of the School around the heat pump units, adding options for children's play areas and building a new PE shed. We look forward to seeing these projects completed and the children, staff and community using them.

Principal Appointment

Over the last term Board members have been heavily involved with the selection of a new Principal for Marshland School. We used a recruitment consultant from Catalyst for Change to help us follow a process of appointment that involved Board, Staff, Student and Community input into coming up with the criteria for the Principal Marshland school needs.

At the conclusion of a rigorous selection process we appointed Leigh Fowler as the new Principal. She was a standout applicant and we are confident that she will lead the school well. Leigh is currently the Associate Principal at Clearview Primary recently and has already been out to meet Staff and Students. We wish her well for her tenure as Principal.

Farewell Jacqui

Finally to Jacqui, thankyou for all that you have done in your 12 years as Principal. You have guided us through some challenging times, always making sure that the School was functioning well. Your Farewell assembly was a real tribute to all the great things that you have been involved in and the high regard people hold for you. It was full of highlights with plenty of examples of your personality and leadership.

The School is well set up for a new leader to come in with the quality systems and excellent standards of learning happening and this is a result of your leadership. We wish you all the best for your new direction. Your skills in Coaching and Mentoring will be well utilised in Schools. You can leave knowing Marshland School is in great shape!

Have a great festive season, if you are leaving us best wishes for your next step in your education and if you are returning we look forward to seeing you in 2021.
