Aotearoa Histories - Pukeko (Yr 2)

Hanneke van den Ende —

This term, the Pukeko Hub have been learning about Aotearoa Histories and Pūrākau (storytelling) in our Inquiry.

We began with wonderings about the people who discovered Aotearoa New Zealand. Through videos and stories we have been developing our understanding of Māori history in our country. We loved the story of Kupe and the Giant Wheke, and enjoyed recreating the story of Aotearoa’s discovery through dance and drama.

We have also thought about our own families and how we have all come from a variety of places over time and that many of us have connections to other countries and cultures.

The tamariki have shown curiosity in their learning; asking and answering questions, and demonstrating the Marshland school value of Ako.
