Te Ao Māori Across Our Kura.

Jess Bond —

We have been doing some really cool things across the hubs this Term.

Tēnā koutou e te whānau,

We’ve had an exciting term so far as we continue to embrace Te Ao Māori across our kura (school).

Our Kapa Haka programme is thriving. The senior students recently learnt a brand new waiata in just one session — ka mau te wehi! (that’s amazing!). Not only did they pick it up quickly, but they also created their own actions to go with the waiata, showing not only understanding of the phrases we had used but it was an excellent example of leadership in action.

Meanwhile, our junior Kapa Haka group is bigger than ever before — we now have 141 enthusiastic tamariki (children) taking part! They’ve been learning some awesome songs, including “Ruru.” We encourage you to ask your tamariki to share the songs at home as they're lots of fun.

We’ve also been continuing with our Te Reo Māori lessons during paramanawa (morning tea). Our focus has been on learning the names for different kai (foods), which has been lots of fun and very practical for everyday use. You might hear some of these words popping up at home too.

As always, we love your input. If you have any suggestions, spot any errors, or have any pātai (questions), please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Ngā mihi nui,
