Get Your Groove on! - Tūī (Year 3-4)
"You dance love, and you dance joy, and you dance dreams.” -Gene Kelly. This term we have been exploring a variety of dance styles. The tamariki have immersed themselves in Folk Dance, Hip Hop and Ki O Rahi.
In Folk Dance we are learning Follow the Leader, Jibiti and The Jiffy Mixer. These traditional dances have very catchy tunes and could even be familiar to some of our parents!
We discussed the different cultures the dances represent. The repetition of each dance helps us remember and stay in time with the music.
In Hip Hop we talked about the steady beat of hip hop music and showcased our moves!
Ki O Rahi are Maori Action Songs. Some of our favourites are Rakau ( stick games) and Hipitoitoi ( thumb battles).
It has been fantastic seeing our students develop their skills and we have some talented dancers in the Tūī Hub!
