Key Information

Paul Tyson - January 30, 2024

Key information related to school hours, attendance, reporting absences and lateness.

SCHOOL HOURS - School hours are 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Schools are required to support the supervision of students from 8:30 am to 3:15 pm.

If your child arrives earlier than 8.30 am, they will need to wait outside the classrooms or play in the playground and not enter classrooms or the admin/cafe areas until 8:30 am. From 8:00 am to 8:30 am is an important time for teachers to complete preparations for the day ahead, or attend meetings, so they are not available to supervise tamariki. We thank you for your cooperation in this. Our staff do not provide supervision in the playground after school. They are busy in meetings and preparing for teaching from 3:15 pm. We ask that all students who remain at school after 3:15 are supervised by parents and whānau or attend Kidsbase.

Please refer to our Before and After School Supervision policy at https://marshland.schooldocs.co.nz/

If you need to drop your children off earlier than 8:30 am or collect them later than 3:15 pm, then you will need to book them into our before and after school facility, Kidsbase. For information on Kidsbase, go to www.kidsbase.co.nz, or phone them on 027 239 7690. Kidsbase opens at 7.30am. After-school Kidsbase hours are 3 pm to 6 pm.

ATTENDANCE - Attending school regularly and on time is hugely important. Every day counts towards a child’s learning and pays huge dividends for their future. Regular attendance is required for tamariki to continue learning and improving their basic reading, writing, and other skills that they need. It also means they are likely to experience educational success. We ask that you support students with regular attendance and arriving at school on time.

Tamariki are legally required to be enrolled in and regularly attend school. If this does not happen, then parents, caregivers, whānau, or whoever is ultimately responsible for that child can be prosecuted.

If your child is absent from school, please make sure you advise the school office by 9:00 am on the day of absence. You can leave a message on our answer phone, send us an email, or via the Hero app. Long-term absences during term time must be in writing to the teacher and the office admin@marshland.school.nz.

LATENESS - All tamariki who arrive after 9:00 am are required to report to the office before going to their classrooms. This will avoid unnecessary phone calls to parents. Teachers mark their rolls at 9:00 am, and once these are completed, teachers cannot make changes. Any changes after this time can only be processed in the office.

SICKNESS - If your children are sick, please keep them away from school. Please notify the office if your child is absent. If your children have diarrhoea or vomiting, it is imperative that you keep them away from school until 48 hours after the last symptoms have disappeared (this is a MOE ruling) to prevent any further spread of sickness.
