Strike Action

Principal (Marshland School) —

Marshland School - Te Rito Harakeke school will be closed for instruction tomorrow - Thursday, 16th March due to industrial strike action.

Primary School teachers have voted to participate in industrial strike action on Thursday, 16th March.

We want our community to know that the collective decision to strike is beyond pay rate increases. It is because school funding is not sufficient to provide the time and resources required to meet the increasingly diverse social, emotional, behavioural and learning needs of students.

Teachers are seeking more resourcing to ensure:

  • all of our tamariki thrive and have equitable access to learning, and
  • the retention and professional wellbeing of quality educators and school leaders in schools.

Due to the large number of teaching staff who are covered by the Primary Teachers' Collective Agreement (PTCA), we are unable to remain open on this day. This decision was made in consultation with the Marshland School Board.

We fully appreciate the inconvenience this causes and know it will be challenging for many of you to manage with your other commitments. It’s the last thing we wanted to do, and the decision was not taken lightly.
