I te waiata a Kapahaka!

Jess Bond —

I te waiata a Kapahaka. The Kapahaka have been singing! 🎵

Our Kapahaka have been working really hard this year to learn new waiata (songs) ready to perform at our cluster Kapahaka festival. We challenged them this term, to put on their best performance so we could share their learning with our community.

This song is called "Haere Mai" and is a song about welcoming others.

Haere mai, Haere mai
E ngā iwi e
Haere mai
Ki runga o te marae
Hui mai, tātou, katoa

E hine mā, e tama mā
Hapainga o, te mana māori e
Kia rewa runga rawa,
I a ha hā
E ngā iwi e
Haere mai, haere mai

Welcome, welcome
All the tribes
Welcome
onto the marae courtyard
all of us gathered here

Young women, young men
Lift up your Maori honour
to float up high

Matua Te Huaki supports our group with a wealth of wisdom, expertise and knowledge. The ākonga (learners) have gained so much insight into Māori Tikanga (customs and values) and Te Reo. I have been impressed this year by the way they have shown Tuakana Teina, which means our more experienced leaders have stepped up and supported those new to the group.

If you are interested there is a Kapahaka festival coming up in November. We warmly welcome our community to this and I have attached the details below.
