School Board Information

Principal (Marshland School) —

Marshland School - Te Rito Harakeke has a high-performing Board who are responsible for governing the school.

The Marshland School - Te Rito Harakeke Board is responsible for governing the school and setting its strategic direction, including curriculum, staff, property, health and safety, finance and administration. These areas of practice fall under the four key governance domains of accountability, leadership, representation and employer role.

The key focus of the Board is providing the environment, support and resources that will enable the students of Marshland to achieve success, be excited about learning and be confident to try new things.

In 2021, the Board engaged in an internal review, facilitated by the New Zealand School Trustees Association. The image below shows the outcome of this internal review and can be viewed in accordance with Figure 1 which provides a key to support interpretation.

Marshland School - Te Rito Harakeke Internal Review

The internal review supported our understanding that the Marshland School Board has significant strength in a wide number of areas, particularly in the domains of leadership and accountability.

We are incredibly proud of our high-performing school, our Board, Principal, staff and tamariki.

We are a friendly close community where parents get to know each other and are encouraged to be involved in their child’s learning and development.

Our Board meetings are generally held in the 4th and 9th week of each school term unless identified otherwise. These meeting dates are included in the school community calendar.

Parents and whānau are welcome to attend the meetings which are usually open to the public, but if the board is considering confidential matters, this part of the meeting will be closed.

Marshland School - Te Rito Harakeke runs a staggered 3-year Board Election cycle. This means Board positions are advertised and elections are held every 18 months.

The school notifies these vacancies in the school newsletter and we encourage interested parties to put their names forward for election.
