Peer Mediator Programme

Riki Culley —

We are excited to announce that our school has launched our Peer Mediation Programme this week.

Peer mediation is a student-led initiative designed to help resolve conflicts among students in a constructive and positive manner. Our goal is to empower students with the skills to handle disputes effectively, fostering a more harmonious school environment.

Selected students from Year 7 and Year 8 have been trained as Peer Mediators over the past few weeks and will be available during break times to assist our junior tamariki in resolving minor conflicts.

The Peer Mediators visited the Kiwi and Pūkeko Hubs to introduce themselves and explained how the programme would be implemented for the remainder of this term. We will roll it out to Tūī and Korimako next term.

We believe that this programme will not only help reduce conflicts but also help build a positive culture and promote important life skills such as active listening, empathy, and problem-solving.
