Bring Your Own Chromebook

Marshland School seamlessly integrates the use of ICT across the curriculum on a daily basis throughout the school. This has been achieved through strategic purchasing and purposeful development for our staff members. We have successfully operated a BYOD policy since 2013, now known as BYOC.

Students who own a device will typically invest more time into customising the device to optimize productivity, resulting in a more proficient operator. This allows us as a school to bridge both formal and informal learning for your child.
Our year 5 – 8’s are welcome to bring their own device as soon as they and their parents have read through and signed our BYOC forms. We recommend a chromebook which will last your child until they go to High School.

How are our children going to be protected?
Today’s world provides your children with unlimited access to a digital culture both locally and internationally. To participate fully, ethically and safely in this world our students must stand up and exercise their rights and responsibilities as a digital citizen. Marshland School will be working hard with all students to become digital citizens. Teachers teach the children about being a digital citizen through a range of units. Then throughout the year, students in Years 5 – 8 learn about and practise positive digital citizenship and safety. Teachers teach the children about being a digital citizen through a range of units studies and their online history is closely
monitored by the teachers and our IT administrator.

A digital citizen will be challenged to make sensible online choices, choices about which security systems are in place and the pathway they choose to take with their digital device.
Marshland School has strict systems in place to filter internet searches however educating our students to access and use devices correctly through successful choice making will protect them even further. With the support of families our students will feel comfortable discussing the issues that arise being part of a highly connected world. In addition to this, we have software named LINEWIZE which reports and sends an alert to the teachers if children have accessed any inappropriate sites. Consequences are just the same as for any inappropriate behaviour, or in the case of online bullying, follow our ‘No Bully’ policy.
