A Love of Literacy - Kiwi (Year 0-1)

In the Kiwi Hub, we’re on a mission to spark a love of reading—and we’re having so much fun along the way! Our classrooms are full of happy little readers who are building strong foundations in literacy every day.

Our students dive into small group guided reading sessions, where we explore books at just the right level for each learner. These focused groups are the perfect place to practise sounding out words, learn new reading strategies, and talk about the stories we’re reading. It’s amazing to see our students light up as their confidence grows!

We also come together for whole-class Big Book reading, a favourite part of our day! These oversized storybooks are filled with colourful illustrations, playful language, and engaging repetition that helps children join in, predict what’s coming next, and build important comprehension skills. Shared reading brings stories to life and helps boost vocabulary and language development in a natural, joyful way.

Whether we’re reading in a group, discussing characters and ideas, or enjoying a story together on the mat, we’re helping children see that reading is exciting, empowering, and full of adventure!
