eLearning Induction

Using technology as a key tool for learning

2021 saw a significant eLearning component incorporated to the Year 9 student induction to Hagley College. Over the first few days of the new academic year, Year 9 students were welcomed to school and settled in to life as a secondary school student. A key part of this process was enabling students to be confident using their laptop as a tool to support their learning in class. Via the eLearning aspects of the induction, students learned technical skills such as connecting devices to the internet and navigating the Hagley College Portal.

Students also had time to familiarise themselves with the Microsoft tools used for learning. Throughout the induction there was a focus on digital citizenship and safety so that all students are aware of the advantages and disadvantages of working online and their digital footprint.

Tutor Teachers also completed follow up activities in Tutor Time as term 1 progressed. When learning formally began, teacher feedback indicated that students were very well prepared for using their laptops to support their learning in class.
