Early childhood update

Jocelyn Wright - Across School Kāhui Teacher, Hagley Preschool —

Early childhood services met up to share and discuss plans for working together.

The 10 early childhood services in our Kahui Ako met together during the July term break for the first time since the Kahui leadership roles had been appointed. It was a chance to meet each other and to hear about how the Kahui Ako is shaping up. Delegates from each centre shared what is on top for them at present particularly in relation to the legacy of lockdown. A suggestion was made to have a regular newsletter from the Kahui that all schools and ECEs could contribute to. This could be a way to share the inspiring things happening within the kahui ako and would be a great way for people to make connections across our ECE/schools.

A shared interest across the early childhood services was to learn more about the cultural narrative of our city. This area of learning was considered as something that we could participate in together. Since the meeting we have successfully booked a ‘city tour’ to be facilitated by Samantha Te Maiharoa-Sykes from Matauraka Mahaanui. This is scheduled for the morning of 18th November. If any teachers from junior classes in our Kahui wanted to join us please let Jocelyn know. (Jocelyn.wright@staff.hagley.school.nz)

Have you seen the resources on the Matauraka website? https://www.matauraka.co.nz/resources

Our group plans to continue to meet termly and take turns to meet in each other’s centres. Viewing different learning environments is always so valuable and enjoyable.
