2021 across-kāhui project: culturally responsive practice

Mike Fowler - Kāhui Community Leader, Hagley —

All kura and ECEs have high expectations for ākonga Māori so they can succeed as Māori - so how can we improve what we do?

During term 2, our kāhui ako will be engaged in the first of a series of wānanga looking at what we do now for our ākonga Māori and also consider what we'd like to strengthen. We'll be working together, focused on how we can support each other in developing our culturally responsive practice. Some key areas we have already established are expanding culturally responsive placed based learning as well as enhancing provision for te reo Māori. Developing powerful connections with whānau is also vital, expanding the ways we engage with whānau.

The project will be led by Sam Te Maiharoa-Sykes, Kaitakawaenga Mana Whenua, Mātauraka Mahaanui.
