eLearning Induction

Nathan Walsh - Across School Kāhui Lead, Hagley College —

Using technology to support learning is an important part of a 21st century education. The importance of students being familiar with technology to use it every day for their learning was further highlighted during lockdown earlier in the year.

To support students with their use of technology while at school, all Year 9 students will be involved with an eLearning induction in 2021. The induction will enable students to learn technical skills such as connecting devices to the internet and navigating the Hagley College portal. Students will also have time to familiarise themselves with the Microsoft tools which will be used for learning. Throughout the induction there will be a focus on digital citizenship and safety so that all students are aware of the advantages and disadvantages of working online and their digital footprint. There will also be resources created for teachers to use in their classrooms beyond orientation week. The eLearning induction is currently planned for Year 9 students in 2021 and is likely to be part of all new students' induction to Hagley College regardless of which year level they begin at Hagley College in future.
