Hybrid Learning

Learning beyond the four walls of the classroom is a key driver of the hybrid learning pilot at Hagley College for 2021.

Findings from the Kāhui Ako Learning from Lockdown inquiry showed that many students benefited from the opportunity to learn away from the classroom. In 2021, two Year 13 classes were taught in a hybrid format where students learned face to face in the classroom and online/away from school. The two teachers of these courses met regularly to reflect on our hybrid teaching and learning and looked at research to improve our practice. Many students reported that taking this opportunity to learn at and away from school has enhanced their skills to work independently, enhanced their well-being and better prepared them for our remote learning period this year. “I was really grateful that on occasions I could independently decide the best learning environment for me. This meant I could actually work at either high speed or not at all for a bit which made me feel less stressed and like I could actually do more (Student A)". Currently a Hybrid Learning report is being written to present to all members of the Kāhui Ako and specifically shared with the Hagley College Senior Leadership Team.
