Induction Resources

The Pathways Achievement Challenge

Ao Tawhiti’s special character as a collaborative community in which students lead their own learning has come to the fore in one of the kāhui’s induction projects.

The New Student Experience class, comprised of students between Year 6 and Year 10, has been designed to support students to reflect on and understand the experiences that new students have when new to the school. This has led to some enlightening conversations!

They identified the need for a physical resource, something that new students can hold onto and refer to, as well as use to capture their important information. While everything is available online, this can be hard to find and easy to forget. A map in your hand is far more useful!

Students have planned layout, interviewed staff and written articles to form two useful and friendly resources in their own inimitable voice.

‘Bluey’s First Day’ describes a new entrant student to Ao Tawhiti, and gives information through a narrative form, whereas the Induction Book aimed at Year 7 and up is more explanatory, but covers a number of vital areas of the school.

Parent and caregiver feedback has been super positive, with many current parents reflecting on how valuable they would have found these resources for their students.
