Year 5 to 8 Bike to School Day

Nick Gunn —

The Selwyn Sports Trust have invited Lemonwood Grove to join the Rolleston schools to celebrate biking to school on 25 September (postponement date 18 October).

Approximately 300 Yr5-8 students will be biking to school along with local police, parents, and community leaders.

The event will begin at 8 am with kids, parents and community leaders meeting at Brookside Park to participate in a range of special activities such as bike safety incentives, speed laser tests, jump jam, sausage sizzle, and pedal mania.  At 9 am they will then ride from Brookside Park to school. Cyclists will arrive at school at around 9.30am.

Bike to School morning encourages a bike-focused celebration for students.

Bike to School morning raises awareness of the need to create safer routes for biking and emphasises the importance of issues such as increasing physical activity among children, pedestrian safety, reducing traffic congestion and concern for the environment. The event aims to build connections between families, schools and the broader community.

The event is being organised by the Selwyn Sports Trust with support from the Selwyn Council and local police.
