Our learners have had a great start to Term 3!

Sean Bailey —

Welcome back everyone! We hope you had a great holiday and spent quality time with your whānau and friends.

Our school roll has hit 300 - wahoo! Today we have 312 learners enrolled at LWG. To recognise and celebrate this occasion, we are planning to get a "human 300" drone shot taken next week. Thanks to Bevan Lewell who has agreed to take this footage for us.

We have been really impressed with how well our learners have settled back into their learning routines. Thank you for ensuring your child/ren are equipped for the term ahead by providing them with the correct stationery, clean/smart uniforms, great lunches and plenty of sleep and rest.  We have an action packed term ahead so they will be requiring plenty of energy!

Production

In week 5 we will be staging our first ever Lemonwood Grove Production: Around the World in 935 days (the time we have been open).

The script is very unique in that it has been written by our learners and staff! Our learners are exited about performing and have been busy practising their speaking parts as well as  dances and songs to compliment the script.

Over the next week you will receive further information around performance times and tickets.

A huge thank you to Jennie Lyall and Maree Ford who are directing the production - it's a big job!

Poto Williams MP Visit

Unfortunately the Hon Chris Hipkins (Minister of Education) was not able to visit last Friday due to the fog in Wellington. We didn't let this phase us! Instead we hosted Poto Williams the member of Parliament for Christchurch East. Poto made a number of announcements on the Ministers behalf including the funding to build our stage 2 which is very exciting! She was so impressed with the Kapahaka who preformed an amazing haka to welcome her onto our school. Our student Ambassadors did an incredible job too showcasing our school to Poto and other dignitaries.

Kopara Market Day

Today I had the privilege to visit the Kopara Market Day. Over the last week, our Year 5-8 learners have been creating food items to sell to raise money for school equipment. I have been really impressed with the 5 key competencies from the New Zealand curriculum (thinking, relating to others, using language, symbols and texts, managing self and participating and contributing ) they have demonstrated during this learning.

This is a perfect example of the Future Focus principle from the New Zealand Curriculum that encourages learners to look to the future by exploring future focused areas such as enterprise.
