The Best of You as You!!!

The Best of You as You!
This week I have spent some time reflecting on our school vision and what it means for myself, the staff and the students at Te Uru Tarata | Lemonwood Grove School.
I am privileged to be able to share some examples of our staff and students living this vision.

Basketball
Our Year 5/6 & Y7/8 teams attended the Selwyn basketball tournament this week and found success on and off the court.
Both teams found success winning two games each and both teams improved teamwork as the day progressed.
The day after the tournament I received a phone call from a local principal. "Blair I felt it was important I reach out and tell you what I saw at the basketball tournament yesterday. After the game I watched 3 of your Year 7/8 boys go and sit amongst my team and talk with them about basketball".
To me this is a perfect example of being 'The Best of You as You' on the court and off the court. Well done Jamie-Joe, Tavita & Mico.

Wellington Principal Visit
This week I had 4 principals from Wellington visit to look around the school. They visited to hear about the rapid growth of our community, the classroom environment and the curriculum delivery.
We were joined on the tour by two ambassadors in Neo and Emily. What wonderful spokes people for our school. Both shared openly of successes and challenges they have found starting as foundation students. I was so impressed with their ability to answer questions without hesitation and their calmness during this hour long interaction.
To me another wonderful example of living our vision 'The Best of You as You'.

Te Reo Māori
Teacher Chris Goldsack started the year taking on the role focused on Cultural Capability. As a school we needed to be better and more responsive to the requirements of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
To build her own knowledge and so she can up skill our staff Chris has been attending Te Reo Māori language classes every Monday evening from 4pm-7pm.
Chris has then shared her new knowledge with the staff and the students on a weekly basis to help better their knowledge of Te Reo Māori.
Thanks Chris for being 'The Best of You as You'.

Regardless of what the 'work' looks like in the future I am a firm believer that the importance of having strong values, the ability to work with people and the drive to be 'The Best of You as You' is vitally important.

He aha te mea nui te ao?
He tangata! He tangata! He tangata!

What is the most important thing in the world?
It is people! It is people! It is people!
