Sean Bailey —

As we approach the end of term 3, let's have a look back at what we have achieved together over the last ten weeks.

Here are some highlights:

  • All learners participated in our first ever whole school production
  • Our Year 7 & 8 learners participated in the Koru Games for the first time
  • Capturing 300 learners @ LWG. Thanks again Bevan
  • Year 5-8 Rugby and Netball Tournament
  • Our first term of our learners participating in TRIBES on a Friday
  • Starjam performance with Waitaha
  • Inducting Rachael into our team
  • Appointing Andrea and Troy
  • Life Education and meeting Harold!

A huge thank you to LINK for pulling off such a successful quiz on Saturday night. This has taken weeks of organisation and has involved a great deal of GRIT and commitment from a very dedicated group of parents: Cherie, Megan, Tania, Melissa, Dawn, Anna, Alysse, Heidi and Nick as staff rep on LINK.

LINK would like to thank the staff who supported this event - Sarah, Maree, Jen and Jennie.

The target of raising $11,000 for the Waitaha and LWG collaborative playground project was achieved. Well done to everyone involved and also those of you who supported this awesome community event. Our learners will really benefit from this resource.

Last week I attended the local Po Whakangahau kapa haka performance at Ellesmere College. I felt really proud sitting in the audience listening to our LWG and Waitaha learners sing with such passion and pride. Below is a short video of the performance.

The next day I received a very cool email from a women I went to teachers college with in Dunedin many moons ago. Her feedback was incredible and confirms what we are aiming to achieve collaborating with Waitaha.

....... "I was so very impressed by your students. The senior girls who stood in the front row carried themselves amazingly and showed such respect to all of those around them. I loved the inclusiveness of your group." ......

And lastly I want to personally acknowledge Nick who leaves LWG on Friday. Thank you for everything you have contributed to our school since we started planning this incredible voyage back in 2016. You will not only be remembered for being the first Deputy Principal at LWG, but more importantly the huge impact you have had on our learners, staff and whanau. Your dedication and commitment has been outstanding. Go well as you move onto your next project, to inspire the Redwood School learning community!

We are really looking forward to Troy and Andrea joining us next term. I know you will make them feel welcome.

Have a great spring holiday with your friends and family. Make the most of the opportunities to get out and about. We will see you back on Monday 14th October.

Regards
