Sean Bailey —

It's hard to believe that there are only 3 weeks left until the end of Term 3! Our learners and community have a number of events to look forward to leading up to the 28th September.

One of my highlights last week was taking Sophia's reading groups while she spent time talking to Lisa our new staff member as a part of her induction day into LWG. I was really impressed with not only their reading ability but also the responsibility they demonstrated. Ka pai!

A big thank you to everyone who is assisting with the following events, we really appreciate all your support:

  • 'Kids for Kids' concert at Horncastle Arena on Tuesday.
  • Ellesmere Kapahaka  performance (20 September)
  • LWG/Faringdon Quiz (22 September)
  • Swimming (17-28 September)

We are now in the process of planning for 2019. Our roll is growing rapidly and it is really important that we know who will be attending LWG in 2019 as this can affect our resourcing and funding going forward. If you know any families who are intending to enrol their children in the future, can you please get them to contact Sarah or Helen in reception or email:

Last week I met with Bruce Harvey from Hugh's Developments. As you know Hugh's have a great presence in our community and contribute to a number of initiatives such as the community gardens. Bruce was amazed with our school and the level of engagement from our learners. Hugh's are very keen to support LWG going forward which is awesome especially talking to new families around what makes us unique. We thank them for their support.

Being continually responsive to the wellbeing needs of our learners, staff and community was an area ERO highlighted:

"The wellbeing/hauora of learners and staff is prioritised. It is directly linked to the school’s vision and strategic goals. This reinforces the school’s desire to develop and respond to the needs of learners in every way."

In Term 4, our Kāhui Ako (Community of Learning) have  invited Dr. Lucy Hone to come and speak to our families. Lucy is a director of the New Zealand Institute of Wellbeing & Resilience, a research associate at AUT University, a published academic researcher, author and blogger for Psychology Today. As well as this she has lived through tragic personal events which forced her substantial academic training and professional practice to foster resilience in very personal circumstances.

We really encourage you to attend this free event at Rolleston College on 18 October. We have been allocated tickets based on our current roll. These are now available from reception. First in first served and one ticket per family. If you miss out we will put your name on a waiting list.

Next week is Maori Language week. We have some great experiences planned to celebrate this week with our tamariki. Here is a link that gives you some resources to use and ways you can become involved.
