Lion's Speech Competition

Bernardita & Sachin —

Selwyn Speech Competition:

Sachin and I were chosen to represent Lemonwood Grove at the Selwyn Speech competition. Once we arrived at Haswell School we were first welcomed and seated in the hall. The event leader explained how the night was going to run. We were split up into two groups; the year sevens went into a learning space, while the year eights stayed in the hall. After everyone was ready they announced who was going to present their speech first. There were many different topics like “why I should be president”, “pineapple does not belong on pizza” and "why you should shop at op shops” plus many more.

Sachin Fernando:

My topic was on Deforestation. When the announcer called my name I felt calm, confident and ready to present. After I presented my topic I was very relieved and proud of myself.

Bernardita Llorens:

My topic was on recycling (and why plastic should be made 100 % out of recycled materials.) I was very confident but also quite nervous. Luckily I was fourth, so I got to see other people's speeches which made me feel more calm and relaxed seeing how confident they were. After some words of encouragement from Amelia and my parents, I was ready to present my speech. I feel like I did very well and I'm overall very proud of myself for getting second place.
