Each newsletter we will provide an explanation of some of the words and phrases that we use here at LWG. This week: Ako Conferences

The concept of Ako means to both teach and learn. It recognises the knowledge that both teachers (and parents) and learners bring to learning situations and that learning is a two way process between the adult and the child.

An Ako Conference is like parent-teacher interview which involves the learner sharing and discussing recent learning with their parents/ caregivers. During the Ako Conference, your child will be responsible for sharing their learning across a range of contexts and learning areas throughout the learning landscape. There will also be an opportunity to share your child’s learning kete (a collection of assessment information) and speak with your child’s whanau teacher.
