Each newsletter we will provide an explanation of some of the words and phrases that we use here at LWG.

Workshops: A workshop is an instructional session usually led by a teacher in small groups.

The session will vary in duration depending on the purpose of the session where targeted teaching of concepts in maths, reading, writing as well as other learning areas occurs. A typical workshop will vary from 15 to 45 minutes in duration.

Learners are grouped in a variety of ways including needs based or interest based. Sometimes a learner may lead a workshop - in these situations there is powerful learning for all involved and tuakana teina concepts are encouraged.

Targeted teaching in small focus groups is a common teaching practice used in primary schools and across other educational sectors. This practice may also be referred to as "guided sessions" or "instructional sessions".
