Oxford Mathematics
We are excited to share that in 2025, Te Uru Tarata | Lemonwood Grove School will begin our journey with Mathematics and Statistics for Aotearoa New Zealand, a comprehensive programme developed by Oxford University Press.

This approach aligns with the refreshed New Zealand Mathematics and Statistics curriculum and is designed to strengthen student learning, build confidence, and foster a deep understanding of mathematical concepts.

What is the Mastery Approach?
The approach follows a Mastery Approach, which ensures students develop a deep, lasting understanding of mathematical concepts before moving on to new topics.

Key aspects of this approach include:

• Deep Understanding – Students fully grasp mathematical ideas rather than just memorising procedures.

• Small, Logical Steps – New content is introduced gradually, building on prior knowledge.

• Fluency and Flexibility – Students develop confidence in numbers and problem-solving skills.

• Everyone Moves Forward Together – All learners are given the opportunity to succeed with the right support and challenge.

• Multiple Representations – Concepts are explored using visual models, real-world examples, and hands-on activities.

• Problem-Solving Focus – Students are encouraged to think critically, reason mathematically, and explain their thinking.

This programme is designed to:

• Support Differentiated Learning – Each student engages with content at their level, ensuring success in every lesson.

• Provide Comprehensive Resources – Teachers have access to structured lesson plans, assessments, and digital content to enhance learning.

• Use Real-World Contexts – Mathematical concepts are introduced through relevant, everyday situations to make learning meaningful.

• Improve Accessibility – The digital platform supports diverse learning needs, including features like text-to-speech.

We are excited about what this programme offers our teachers and children. We need to ensure that we do this programme justice and will be upskilling our teachers over the year with the aim to be fully implemented in 2026. Mathematics is still a priority at Lemonwood Grove this year.
