It’s hard to believe we are into term two already - it feels like it has been a busy start to the year for everyone!
The BOT wish to pass on our best wishes to Sean as he continues his recovery - Sean’s dedication to detail, and the excellent culture of teamwork at LWG, really shone through in his absence. What was also apparent was the great depth of leadership we have at LWG - Nick did an amazing job of keeping things on an even keel and he was well supported by Jen and the rest of the staff. As a BOT, we wish to acknowledge you all for your efforts.
The BOT intend to meet with the Waitaha group within the next couple of weeks which will be great to discuss how we might work together in the future. We also are engaging with Te Taumutu runanga’s Kaitohutohu Hauora and Mātauranga (Advisor for health and education) regarding feedback in relation to our cultural responsiveness policy.
The BOT has been working alongside the MOE to look at options to improve the safety of the car park. Following the commissioning of a independent car park safety audit, the BOT considered several improvement options and worked with various experts to identify the best way forward. The MOE have agreed to support our preferred option and we are anticipating the work will be completed in the next school holidays.
The BOT continues to closely monitor the schools financial performance as we transition from an establishment mindset to one of business as usual. We are working on a strategy to ensure we have money in reserves, while at the same time ensuring our children have all the facilities and resources they need to grow. We are continuing to fund a number of new initiatives this year including new STEM, make-a-space, and play-based-learning resources, as well as additional teacher support staff.
As a governance group it has been great to watch the school entering its second year of operation. It is a good time to review the progress made, ensure the school culture is continuing to flourish, whilst also looking ahead to the challenges before us. We expect to continue to see significant role growth this year and with this will come more staff, more infrastructure and more families into the mix. Please continue to engage and support the growth of the school community, as everyone has a part to play in ensuring our learners have an amazing school experience.
