Message from the Principal
Term Three Week Six 2024
Kia ora koutou Te Waitai Sefton School Community!
We hope you all had a wonderful mid-term break and we enjoyed hearing about your children's adventures.
The teachers had a productive two days of professional development for the two scheduled teacher only days. On Friday, Linda and Kelly from Engage visited our school to share practical ideas for self-regulation through intentional game play, skill acquisition, and language. This program is particularly helpful for the transition from preschool to primary school, but can also be implemented school-wide to improve results. Our teachers will be incorporating Engage into their daily routines for 30 minutes, broken down into smaller chunks throughout the day.
If you're interested in learning more about the three types of intentional games or activities that our teachers will be using, please feel free to visit your child's classroom. The most interesting aspect of Engage is that the psychologist who designed the program has incorporated research from the Dunedin Study Project to create a step-by-step process for teachers to follow.
On Monday, we had the pleasure of working with Katie from ImpactEd to design and upgrade our Sefton School Curriculum. Given the recent government changes to education and the refreshed New Zealand Curriculum, it's essential for our teachers to discuss these updates, explore new resources, and tailor our curriculum to best meet the needs of our Sefton students.
We hope everyone is feeling better after a recent wave of sickness. Please remember to take care of yourselves and ensure a speedy recovery.
Huge congratulations to our girls at Sefton School! Our two Jump Jam teams put on amazing performances at this year's competition, with the younger team placing second.
Good luck to our Senior Netball team for their final on Saturday.
Thanks to Donna and Esra for taking our Girls for 'Girls got game!' on Thursdays. We're excited about the huge uptake of Friday basketball, with five teams entered, including two girls teams!
Thank you for your ongoing support,
ngā mihi nui,
Heidi Moeller-Kemp
