Exploring Wind Power: A STEM Journey for Students at Te Waka Unua School

Kate Manch —

Embark on a journey of learning with Kōkōkaha, an educational program unlocking the secrets of wind energy for students aged 9-14 in New Zealand. Discover the wonders of STEM in a fun and engaging way.

At the Navel Point Club Lyttelton, 50 Year 7-8 students learned to sail through the Kōkōkaha program. Kōkōkaha integrates STEM concepts like science, technology, engineering, and math, focusing on wind power.

The program offers three phases from Year 4 to Year 10, aiming to empower students to design technologies leveraging wind energy. Students participated in a range of STEM lessons in the club house and also spent an hour and a half out on the water, learning to sail.

Our students had an amazing time and all managed to navigate their boat around the harbour.
