Te Waka Unua Year 6 students had the opportunity to learn to ride safely on the road and earn their Cycle Safety certificates.
Our Year 6 students across the school recently had an exciting opportunity to participate in the Christchurch City Council's Cycle Safe programme. This educational initiative aims to equip young riders with essential skills and knowledge to cycle safely and confidently on the roads.
During the programme, students learned about bike maintenance, road safety rules, and practical cycling techniques. They practiced riding in a controlled environment in the school grounds before progressing to real-life situations on the road, where they were guided in small groups by experienced instructors.
The hands-on training not only improved the students' cycling skills but also boosted their confidence, encouraging them to embrace cycling as a healthy and sustainable mode of transport. The Cycle Safe programme plays a vital role in promoting safe cycling habits which we are very grateful to the City Council for providing.
