Little Shop of Horrors

Neil Harray —

Hopefully you have managed to get along to see this years school production - The Little Shop of Horrors. A well known stage production and movie, this highly technical and challenging production has been a great experience for the cast, crew and supporters. It has been really cool to see so many of our students involved during rehearsals and supporting each other.

We are very lucky as a community to have Ms Hagan once again devoting so much time to the organisation, preparation and direction of this production. Her enthusiasm for our students involvement in the Arts is greatly appreciated.

As you will see in the notes below, it has been a team effort, with lots of people helping out in key support roles.

Well done to everyone involved.

Synopsis

A New York “Skid Row” florist shop, owned by Mrs Mushnik, is struggling to make ends meet. Until - lo and behold - shop employee, Seymour Krelborn, finds a strange and mysterious plant which helps to turn their fortunes around. Seymour is secretly in love with the shop girl, Audrey and so calls this plant "The Audrey II". The fates of all are jeopardised as the plant develops a mind of its own.

A Note from the Director - Ms Adrienne Hagan

It is with great pleasure that we present our 2024 Musical Production Little Shop of Horrors.

Students worked tirelessly to produce this fabulous show by acting, singing; set building and painting; backstage set and props; costume; sound and lighting.

Thank you to Ms Liz Dixon, teacher, who has worked with our students on the very complex task of singing and who acts as “prompt”. We can’t thank her enough for her time and energy. Thank you to Marshall den Boer for returning to school from university and helping us with the lighting - not an easy task! Without Mr Michael Ashford-Beck and his Resistance Materials Technology class, we would not have had the fabulous shop set. Thank you to Ms Danielle Gemmell for publications and communications to help us promote the show. Thank you to Jonathan Roberts from Waikato Sound and Lighting, who helps us sort and keep the technology working

Matamata Piako District Council and the Lions Foundation provided us with financial grants which helped pay for the rights, set building, hireage of puppets, lighting and sound equipment.

Thank you to you, the audience, without whom there would not be a “show”!

With the support of Principal, Mr Neil Harray, and the Te Aroha College Board of Trustees, we bring you Little Shop of Horrors!
