What's happening around the school - campus upgrades
The Board of Trustees have prioritised the maintenance and building projects for the next 4-5 years.
While not something that is normally a hot educational topic, I would like to keep you updated on what we have planned for around the school campus site.
We have a far better maintenance cycle in place now. There is a painting cycle in place and we will focus on a cycle of classroom refurbishment. Our students and teachers need to learn and work in high quality environments. It will take a while to get around the whole school but there is a plan in place.
For those of you that have been in the gym in the last 12 months you will have noticed that the ceiling tiles keep getting displaced and at times fall down. We have explored a whole range of options to try and rectify this problem - some of them massively expensive. However, we have found a solution and the whole ceiling structure will be replaced in the first week of the school holidays.
We are also investigating and planning to do some work around the pavilion and pavilion end of the pool. The first step is to totally refurbish the pavilion changing rooms, upgrade the pool changing rooms and then remodel the pool/pavillion boundary. This whole project will most likely take 12 months to complete, depending on the complexity of the what we decide.
During the summer break we will be constructing three covered areas specifically for students to eat their lunch. We realise that there is not a great deal of covered seating around the school so this will go some way to addressing this.
We also have a school-wide re-roofing project. This is a Ministry of Education funded project. It will also include removing air conditioning units from the roofs to ground level. The timing for this project has yet to be confirmed however we aim to minimise disruption to any classroom use.
Other long term projects include some alterations of existing buildings to create more student and staff spaces from areas of the school that are no longer in use.
Future projects include upgrading the Hard Materials areas of the Technology Block and the construction of a school Wharenui.
