Year 11 Art - Stream Study Trip

Danielle Gemmell —

Visit to Tunakohoia Strem

On Thursday 4th of April, Ms Baylis, Mr Popoola, Karla and the Year 11 Art class went to Tunakohia stream and participated in some activities like, testing the pH of the stream water, testing the cleanliness of the stream water, and looking for different macroinvertebrates, such as beetles, worms, dobsonflies and mites. These activities were led by two Enviroschools Waikato facilitators, Sarah Taylor and Alex Daniel. This will help the art students with their first drawing assessment.

Ms Baylis decided to take her class on this trip to bring sustainability into art. To help give students a greater understanding of nature, and bring context into their art. According to Ms Baylis, art is “Not just drawing pretty pictures”, it is about finding more depth in the things we see in nature. This is why we need to protect our environment.
