Cultural Evening
Neil Harray — August 5, 2024
By sharing your culture you are creating our culture.
On Thursday evening 1 August we celebrated the many cultures' that are part of Te Aroha College. It was a fun night, full of costumes, dance and drama showcasing our students cultures and backgrounds.
Mrs Loraine Jayme was the driving force behind this event. Our wonderful ESOL teacher, Mrs Jayme had the inspiration to link this event to the International Day of Friendship.
This was the first time that many of students have ever had the chance to express their culture at our school. There was an enthusiastic crowd that packed into the hall. Before the performances, there was an opportunity to sample food from the groups that were performing. This was an unexpected bonus for many of the people that came along but the set the scene for the night ahead.
Many thanks to our judges. Mayor Adrienne Wilcock, former staff member Diana Jager and current Head of English Rachel Scott who had the difficult task of judging the performances.
Our MC's for the evening, Sarfyre, Brooklyn and Ashley did a fantastic job of introducing each performance and help create a festive atmosphere. Great leadership from these three wonderful students.
