NCEA
Neil Harray — January 19, 2025
There has been some good progress in our latest NCEA results for 2024. However, these results show the need to focus on academic outcomes.
As I did last year, I want to share the unfiltered NCEA results with you. Attached are the NCEA results directly from NZQA. I believe that being open and transparent with the community is important. Overall there has been good improvement across almost all levels of NCEA.
This is a quick overview of the results. We do a far more in-depth review with each Head of Learning analysing every standard and identifying any trends within their subject areas. These are discussed with the Senior Leadership Team and changes made to teaching programmes to best cater for our students.
While I don't normally like to compare with national statistics, given the massive changes to Level 1 last year it is reassuring that our results are comparable to what the national picture looks like. It was a difficult year for the teachers of Level 1 NCEA and a great deal of effort was put into trying to do our very best for all of the students. Mrs Gemmell has been really supportive of this cohort with a number of students just missing out be a small number of credits.
My focus when analysing these results is always on what is happening for specific groups of students within Te Aroha College and what can we do to improve outcomes for our students.
It is great to see the Level 2 students do much better this year. I know as a cohort they have really worked hard and Mr McArdle has been closely monitoring their progress throughout the year.
We continue to do relatively well in our endorsements however our Excellence grades are down on previous years. This will definitely be an area for review at the start of the year. Merit endorsements continue to be a strength of our results and good reward for lots of hard work from our students and staff.
