Week 6 TGC Sport Update
It was a week of Sport at TGC. We had lots of girls out representing TGC for various sports during week 6, including Golf, Athletics, Cricket, Tennis and Volleyball.
Golf Update
The week began with Golf on Monday. The girls headed off early to Omokoroa Golf Club an participated well in a tough competition. We had six girls competing; Sofi Blythe, Tania Ellis, Hannah Park, Talia Rankin, Maddy Sherwood and Judy Shin.
Cricket Update
Tuesday we had the Cricket 1st XI team and Athletics girls. The Cricket were playing in the BOPCA Venus qualifiers for a place in the Northern Districts qualifiers in Auckland next week. The girls had three great games and wins! The were crowned the BOP Champions. Special mention to Amy Clegg who also got a hattrick in the first game.
Athletics Update
There were 32 girls who went to the Bay of Plenty Athletics Championships held at the domain. They all competed really well and there are many great athletes. For the Junior girls Maia Poutawera cam 1st in the 300m and 1st 800m, Tetsani Poroa-Thompson 2nd in the 300m, Paige Rickard 3rd 800m, Maia Suttie 1st 3000m, Kate Elliot 3rd 3000m, Pauline Hakaralu 3rd Shot Put, and the Junior girls relay team came 3rd consisting of Maia, Tetsani, Ava Laking and Bails Boyne.
Intermediate girls; Abi Wikeepa 1st 100m and 1st 200m, Candice Pretorious 4th 200m and 1st Hurdles, Olivia Hala 1st 400m and 1st 800m setting a Bay of Plenty record (and school) with a time of 2m 17s! Saskia Rhind 1st high jump, 1st Discus, 2nd Hurdles and 1st shot put, she also broke school records in the high jump and discus. Sunny Davis 2nd high jump and 3rd triple jump, Mia Quirke 4th long jump, Moui Veikoso 2nd shot put and Neva 3rd shot put. The intermediate girls relay team consisting of Abi, Candice, Saskia and Cerys Adkins also got 2nd.
Senior girls; Brooke Poutawera got 2nd in 800m and 4th in Long Jump and Morgan Overington got 2nd in 1500m. Well done to all these girls and there outstanding efforts as well as all the other girls who represented the school. Eighteen of these girls have qualified to compete in the Waikato/BOP Champs next week which is a great achievement.
Tennis Update
Friday the tennis girls took a trip to Rotoura to compete in the BOP Tennis Champs. We had 11 girls representing the school. Sophie Karl won the Division 1 singles and Maea Wikohika came 2nd in the Division 2 singles and her sister Tearani came forth. The rest of the girls took part in the very tough doubles division.
The final of the BOP Volleyball Champs where held on Friday and Saturday and our 3 teams battled it out to get their final seeding places. The Senior A's finished 5th overall, Senior B's 13th and our Senior development, which is our young up and coming players, had a tough battle amongst the seniors but played well and learnt a lot. These teams are also off to the Nationals next week and we wish them the best of luck.
