On Thursday 4 November we celebrated Te Moana Nui a Kiwa prize giving. This is always a special event and this year did not disappoint.
It is always special to celebrate all of the successes of our Māori and Pasifika students and modelling tuakana-teina is always a highlight. This year our Māori Head Girl, Teia Kahura, opened the ceremony and our MC's for the event included Deputy Head Girls Kahurangi Ngatai and Tarifa Laban, along with prefects Kalo Afu, Cheynes Kuka and Parewai Wehipeihana.
We awarded our very deserving wahine our excellence, special and supreme awards (see special and supreme award winners below) with our Pasifika and Māori taonga.
It was also very special to acknowledge our tuakana who are leaving school. All of our Year 13 students received a taonga. The prefects and students who received scholarships were also acknowledged.
Teia Kahura, our Head Girl of 2021, has received a $15,000 scholarship from Otago University and is going to study Law and a Bachelor of Commerce
Kahurangi Ngatai, our Deputy Head Girl of Cultural Diversity, is going to Waikato University to study to be a primary teacher
Tarifa Laban, our Deputy Head Girl of Communications for 2021, has received a $15,000 scholarship from Otago University to study a conjoint degree of Law and Communications
Maia Flint, our Deputy Head Girl of School Spirit, has received a $5000 scholarship from Victoria University to study a Bachelor of Architectural Studies
Hannah Taniwha, our Student Well Being prefect, is going to Auckland University to study a Bachelor of Commerce
Cheynes Kuka, our Kaupapa Māori prefect, is going to Auckland University to study Health Science
Brooke Poutawera, Communications prefect, has received a $13,000 scholarship from Otago University to study Science
Kalo Afu, Pasifika prefect, is going to study at AUT Health Science
Arihi Tamai has received a $5000 scholarship to Waikato University
Maggie Davidson has received a has received a $13,000 scholarship from Otago University to study a Bachelor of Commerce and Psychology
Parewai Wehipeihana is going to Auckland University to study Health Science
