Future Leaders Programme

Hunter Ririnui —

The Future Leaders Programme, sponsored by the BOP Education Trust aims to further develop secondary school students' leadership skills. This opportunity allows for promising young leaders to receive guidance and personal coaching from a professional facilitator, in an environment where they can collaborate with student leaders from other schools across the Bay of Plenty.

From each participating school, one or two Year 12 students are chosen to represent their school. The programme lasts for two years and consists of two workshops each year. This year, our Year 12 representative is Liv Marshall.

For the first two workshops, participants learn about the foundations of leadership and methods to lead effectively. They are then expected to apply this learning by undertaking a project that they will lead for the rest of the year. Liv’s project is leading the PB4L committee.

“The Future Leaders Programme has been such a rewarding experience. I am so grateful to have been given the opportunity to meet an incredible group of likeminded students from all over the Bay of Plenty, and I have benefited from learning about situational leadership.” - Liv

During the second year of the programme, the participants learn about different leadership styles and application of situational leadership. They then use this to help them in their school leadership roles. The Year 13 representatives from TGC who were chosen last year are Rose Bruning and Hunter Ririnui. Last week Rose and Hunter attended their last workshop for this programme and have found their overall experience very helpful and informative.
