7 week for seniors!!

Attending school, being focussed and engaging in class is still key for all students, especially those students undertaking formal qualifications by sitting NCEA examinations. Between now and then, we have further learning to cover and benchmark examinations to sit. All teaching staff are aware of the exciting times ahead as we continue to navigate our way through illness but focussing on what we can achieve. Your young person's attendance is key to this.

A focus on good mental health

At each of the cohort assemblies I reminded all staff and students of five simple ways to wellbeing as supported by the Mental Health Foundation of NZ. I share this visual with you so that you too are aware of some of the topics we covered during those assemblies.

Best of luck to the Chorale and to our Amazing Artists

Our Chorale group will be performing at Cadenza in Rotorua this weekend. They are an extremely dedicated and passionate group and we wish them and their teachers/tutors all the best. We also appreciate the work of our Art Dept and invite you to attend the annual Art Exhibition which opens on Thursday at the Historic Village. Come along and see the amazing works of our talented art students.

BoT nominations close this Friday

We hope you have completed your nomination form.

Community Consultation

Thank you to all those staff, parents and students that have completed the community consultation survey on behalf of the BoT. We value your input. In addition to the survey, we have had 2 focus groups with students and a whānau hui to gather any further feedback. The survey closes on 19 August.

Another successful Open Evening

Online Enrolments of Year 8 students for 2023 have opened. It was wonderful to see such encouraging numbers again, attending our Open Evening. If you have any friends interested in enrolling, ask them to contact our office or visit our website for more details.

Staff shortages and a 1.45pm end to Thursday

Finally, thank you for your support of TGC and especially during staffing shortages which have resulted in rostering home. We have continued to roster Years 9 and 10 home for an additional two weeks but are hoping to have overcome our shortages for the last few weeks of the term. The five period but shorter Thursday will continue for the remainder of the term as communicated from the outset.

Breakfast Club

On Thursday, I help out at our Breakfast Club. The club is held in Te Manawa (former C Block). Hot Milo, cereal and toast is available to all from 8-8.30am. There is no cost and all are welcome. The fabulous Mrs Bidois prepares lunch/kai for students at this time also. At our kura, we endeavour to ensure that everyone is fed and has positive energy for the day. My special thanks to all the senior students who volunteer their time every morning and also ensure the club is welcoming and ready for action each day!
