Tauranga Girls’ College Expectations for Parents - Attendance

TGC —

As a kura we value your support and the important role you play in the learning and education of your young person. Our expectations are that you can support us as we seek to ensure our learners are at school on time or if they are absent, that this absence is explained.

At our kura, we expect no less than 90% attendance of all our learners. The table below shows how poor attendance can add up over time. A day away from kura is five hours of learning to catch up on.

If your young person is isolating at home there is online learning available via Google Classroom.

Supporting your young person to attend kura reinforces our values of mana, motuhake and manaakitanga and our shared commitment to the standards we value. It also supports positive conversations about being part of 'Team TGC’.

Please support your young person by ensuring they are at school on time each day. If you require any assistance with this, please speak with your young person's whānau teacher in the first instance.

You can access your young person's attendance through the KAMAR parent portal. If you need support with this, please contact the office. You can find a full list of attendance codes set by the Ministry of Education here.

Accessing school during school hours
If you need to collect or drop off your young person during the school day, this must be through the main school office. For health and safety reasons, the bus bay is for buses and is NOT a collection point during the school day.
