Tumuaki Pānui
As we come to the end of another year, we invite you to join us for our Junior Prizegiving Celebration.
Prize Giving
Whilst we proudly celebrated the successes of our Year 11-13 cohort, we invite you to join us as we celebrate the achievements of our Year 9 and 10 cohort. This event takes place in our Sports Hall on Monday 9th December. Please be seated for a 10am start. A reminder that parking is always challenging, so please arrive early. School will end for all students at approximately 11.30am after the Prizegiving event and buses will arrive at 12.30pm.
Mental Health and Wellbeing
Despite the year coming to an end, it’s always a good time to remember and engage with the five ways to well-being.
Year 9 and 10 Activities to celebrate the end of the year
Congratulations to all our Year 9 and 10 students engaged in camps or school based activities but especially to the staff who are away from their families or are giving up time to support these wonderful opportunities. There have been amazing races, truffles made (and eaten), hangi too. Thanks to the girls who shared their ‘candy salad’ with myself and Mrs Valentine although I am not sure if that many lollies are good for you!
Thanks also to our Te Manawa team who supported their students with xmas baking
The weather has been exceptionally kind. A lot of learning takes place outside of curriculum classrooms and this is why we value the opportunity to end our schooling year in this way. Team work, learning beside new friends, challenging your thinking skills or baking capabilities and being away from home for those on overnight camps, all adds to a kete of skills that are transferable into many contexts.
Those students who are leaving us
To those students who have come to the end of their schooling, including our international students, we wish you an incredible journey ahead. We believe at Tauranga Girls’ College, we have engaged in deliberate acts of learning in the classroom provided a broad range of curriculum options and an enormous range of extra-curricular pathways for every student to capture. All of these, we know, contribute to your well-being, IQ, EQ and your connection to our kura and now beyond. Go well, you fabulous TGC alums!
NZQA External Examinations
I want to thank all of our learners for ensuring they have given themselves the best opportunity to excel in external examinations. We have enjoyed seeing the many students using the library and classroom spaces for study over the last few weeks before returning to sit NCEA examinations. Thank you to our centre manager and her team and to Mrs Talbot our Principals Nominee. Results will be available mid January.
School Office
Our school office closes for the year on Friday 13th December, 2024, and re-opens on Wednesday, 22 January 2025. During this period, there will be no one answering phone calls or responding to emails. Enrollments can still be completed online. It is time for everyone to have a well deserved break.
Whooping Cough and Meningitis
Unfortunately, there is another rise in both of these in Aotearoa. As per our Ministry of Education bulletin, please seek medical advice if your young person is unwell
Head Student and Deputy Head Students are named
It is my pleasure to announce that your Head Student for 2025 is Maia Poutawera. Maia is an amazing all-rounder and will continue to represent Tauranga Girls’ College with pride. More about Maia and her team will be shared via our SM platform. Congratulations to all of our senior students who put their name forward for a formal leadership role again this year.
Finally, I wish all of our TGC friends and families all the very best over the summer break. We have celebrated so many achievements throughout the year and I look forward to beginning the year on the same note. We have a dedicated team of teaching and support staff who really make our place a special one and for all to enjoy. Thank you to my colleagues and to our Board.
Our powhiri for our new students will be on Tuesday 4th February at 9am. Keep safe and stay well and see you in 2025!
