Lincoln University Navigate ki Aoraki - Maori and Pasifika Whanau day 2024

On Wednesday 31 July a small group of TGC Māori and Pasifika students attended the Lincoln University Careers Day, Navigate ki Aoraki, held at K'aute Village Fale in Hamilton.

After a warm welcome, Matasiva Taula introduced the team of liaison staff, who provided insights into the campus, available programs and support services.  A third-year Lincoln student shared her personal experiences, including her life as a student, adapting during her first year, and the benefits of having held a scholarship throughout her studies.

The event featured two student challenges: the first involved painting a small canvas to express their thoughts about leaving for university.  The second challenge was to complete a planning book with tasks designed to help them prepare for further education.

Hands-On at Otago Applications are open for 2025!

This is a unique opportunity for students from our school (who will be in Years 12 and 13 in 2025) to come down and experience a week of Otago student life.

If you haven’t heard about Hands-On at Otago before, students stay on campus in one of their residential colleges and choose a subject to study for the week. There are 25 subjects on offer, from across Business, Health Sciences, Humanities (Arts) and Sciences. They’ll learn from their world-class academic staff, meet students their age from schools across the country and participate in a huge range of activities that will challenge and inspire them for the year ahead.

Hands-On will run from Sunday 12 January to Friday 17 January 2025. It’s important to note that they tend to receive more applications than they have places available, so they encourage students to put time and effort into their applications, and share with them why they should be offered a place. Their application is often the deciding factor in their acceptance.

Want to know more about the programme? Head online: otago.ac.nz/hands-on-at-otago

Here you’ll find videos, info on costs, scholarships (there are lots of these available and they really encourage all students to apply for one), fundraising ideas, accommodation information, transport options and more. However, if you have more specific questions, feel free to contact one of their team: hands-on@otago.ac.nz – they are always happy to help.
