Principal —

Welcome to our second edition of He Karere Tūī for this term. Thank you for taking the time to hear what we have been up to!

Keeping everyone connected and safe

The health, safety and wellbeing of all at TGC is important to us so we continue to do a range of things to ensure your daughter enjoys her time here at TGC. We have a strong pastoral structure which includes the whānau teacher, subject teachers, house dean and DP along with a Guidance team of three, a health centre, careers advisor and learning hub. Your part is ensuring your daughter comes to school prepared to learn and to be positive in all that she does by participating both in and out of the classroom. If she is unwell, she must stay at home and in some instances get a COVID test. We provide soap and sanitiser and our cleaners ensure touch points are given extra attention when cleaning each day.

COVID Alert Levels changes

We are fortunate in Tauranga, that Alert Levels have remained at 1 or 2 and therefore school is safe and open for learning. Whilst we have had to postpone and reschedule a few events, we know how important it is to support the team of five million! Please make sure you do your part in using the tracer app and scanning using the QR code when visiting places. All students should be bringing the devices (not mobile phones) such as chromebooks to school each day and should log into their Google classroom when not at school. The Google classroom is how we will ensure continuity of learning should alert levels change and we are required to be off site.

Meeting the teachers

Te Ara Ako day is Wednesday 17 March and we invite you and your daughter to book in a 15 minute conversation with her whānau teacher who will then give you an overview of how the year has begun. As this is your daughter's whānau teacher for her duration of her time at TGC, we value you taking the time to come in and partner with us to share in her learning and connections with school.

Attendance

We expect your daughter to be at school and if for whatever reason she is not able to attend, please let us know ASAP by emailing, phoning or coming in person. Research shows that the longer a student is away, the more difficult it is to keep up, achieve success and benefit from all that school has to offer.

Beyond the classroom

It is an expectation that all students are committed to a sport, club or activity outside of their subject areas. If your daughter has not signed up for something, please ask her to do so. There are a variety of activities to select from including yarn bombing through to Amnesty International and of course the myriad of sports, arts and music. Sign ups are taking place NOW and parents can find out more about this via the Parent Portal.
