Basketball Success
Term 2 and the July school holidays have been extremely busy for our TGC basketball players.
The local Wednesday night TCBA Secondary School league continues to offer our 3 teams an opportunity to put what they practice into action. The focus is now on making the semi-finals/finals in weeks 5 and 6 of this term!
Our Tauranga representative players have had an outstanding Nationals campaign over the holidays. Tauranga City Basketball U16 Girls won their first EVER National Title with a convincing 110-80 win over Wellington. Congratulations Areta Kahura, Jayla Teki, Makyla Hema, Harper Lavao, Riley McClenaghan, and Coaches Jeanna Cooney and Richie McClenaghan. Riley was awarded the Footlocker Defensive Player of the Tournament.
Further congratulations to Areta and Riley who made the Final 24 Squad members for the BBNZ U15's Training Camp in July. And Tauranga City Coasters Women’s team competed in the Tupu League and came 2nd in the country! Congratulations to Maia Kahura and Coach Chelseah.
Pahlyss Hokianga continues to shine on the international stage as she competed in the FIBA U17 Women’s World Cup in Mexico, finishing 12th in the world. She has also been named in the wider Tall Ferns squad and heads to San Francisco for training camp; we wish her all the best.
None of this would be possible without the support of our fabulous basketball community and whānau. The journey continues as we prepare for Winter Tournament Week with both our Junior and Senior Premier teams competing in Rotorua.
